I recently purchased a Flaming River Coupler (FR1506P). I am going to install it on my 1970 Duster. The power steering box has been rebuilt by Firm Feel Stage Two. I have already run the box and there are no leaks. According to the instructions on the coupler, I am supposed to cut 1.5" off the steering shaft, slide the coupler up 2", and then use the coupler as a pilot hole and then drill a 5/16" hole through the shaft and coupler. The car is still in the body shop and I am getting ready to put the column, k-member, and engine in it so it can be moved to paint shop. I am going to use the metal cut off saw and drill press to do the modifications.
Questions: Have any one of you installed this coupler? After installation, how was the feel vs. the stock coupler?
I am trying to get some feed back BEFORE I cut and drill; also any suggestions from any who have dealt with this before.
As a mechanic I realize that the instructions given can be improved upon.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
