I was about to go out side an put in my Dusters floot panels. Then, the worst possible thing happened. I stopped to think.

Since I have floor panels ready to drop in and be welded, should I protect them first before welding or after welding?

Now before you answer, more info........

I picked up Eastwoods seam sealer and there rust encapsulator. Panels are bare and fresh out of box only to trail fit. They have that light oil/greasy coating on them. Washing them first I think!

I was thinking ....... (See, bad part again....) of welding them in first and then painting n the encapsulator. My thought was, how well can I get the encapsulator in the overlapping area?

I realize the seam sealer would help protect, but how well?

OHHhh, I'll just stand by until tomorrow.......

I used Plasti-Cote zinc rich cold galvanizing primer.
It is also a weld through primer.
First I cleaned the pan with a degreaser ,you could probably use lacquer
thinner .
After I welded it in and ground the welds I reprimed the welds and use seam sealer over them.Then primed over the sealer. Might be a little over kill with the primer but I guess it doesn't hurt.
Hope this helps.
Tom

Thanks. I later found this at the Eastwood site;

Now, before the panel is welded into place, would be a good time to apply Rust Encapsulator to those hard to reach areas.

Able to weld through it?
