I deliver to Ohare Airport . I drive a semi. My truck is 69.5 feet long, 13.6 feet high, and 8.5 feet wide. This particular aircraft I took some pics of is a Boeing 777. It is not quite as large as the 747 but has a higher tail, wider wingspan and two less engines that put out about as much power as the four on the 747 (almost). Anyhow take note of the first pic. There are two hinge covers (bumps) on the right wing. I went right under there with my truck and snapped a few pics. At the time of this pic my truck is sitting right next to the engine as seen but my trailer has the wing sitting above my trailer. Funny, as big as my truck is it was like a Tonka toy next to this big boy. Kind of intimidating, huh??

I used to load C-5A Galaxy Airlifters in the military, makes you feel real small...

Hey, a thread about planes.....I love the sound, the smell....just being at the airport! I used to be a crew chief on C-141's in the Air Force. Yesterday we went over to Apple Valley airport. They had a little air show going on. Neat stuff.

I do get close to the little guys too. First one is loaded with passengers and on the way out on the taxi way. The second is still in one of the gates. Kind of exiting being out there.

Thank you for sharing I don't see how they get off the ground

That Gull wing air plain cudavert posted #799 was a great fighter from what I was told and watched them on Ba Ba Black Sheep.

For my bragging rights as I am a plane buff and like getting out on the 'field' I have a neat pic of my buddies 'Rod" and my A body. Got it at a car show we have here every year that coordinates with a small air show. This year they had some nice planes. This 'Texan' caught my eye. Asked the pilot if we could get a pic with our cars near the plane. Here is the result.

Chaz...great pics in front of the AT-6 especially with the C-47 in the background. Cudavert..you caught three of my fav's, Mitchell, Hellcat, & Corsair. THX guys.

Yeah, I thought the Hellcat with British markings was cool. I have a bunch of photos of the aircraft at our show. There was a beautiful P51 there and a British plane with folding wings that looked like a Spitfire but it was something else. I have to downsize them but if anyone wants to see the pics I will clip em and post em. By the way. You could buy a seat on that C47 for $95.00 bucks for a 1/2 hour flight at that show!
Chas.

Chaz..A ride on the C-47 would be cool, A ride in the B-25 would be orgazzzmic. Had a friend who rode in a single place Mustang as GIB. All the old WW2 radio equipment etc. was removed to make room for very cramped seat. I'm sure his grin was wider than mine after NATG ride in Texan.

Are the C-27 Spartans still in service ? While we're here, let's give credit to all the U.S. car builders that turned out ( under license ) thousands of the aircraft used to kick butt in WW2. GM did the torpedo bomber TBM ( Grumman ) and AAF plane or two ( anybody know which ? ).

Thanks for the pics. My dad spent WWII in a 25 flying fighter escort over the Hump for the C47s and C46s when he wasn't blowing **** up in Burma in support of Merrill's Marauders. His crew position was in the little Plexiglas bubble on top of the fuselage that he shared with 4, .50 caliber machine guns. He never said much about it, but I learned enough to know I'm real lucky to be here.

Aren't we all lucky to be here instead of speaking Ger' or Jap'. Your father and many others are called the "Greatest Generation" for good reason. When I moved here I had the good fortune of meeting some WW2 vets, three of whom flew; B-17, B-26 ( Martin ), and SBD. All very humble men.

Im an airplane nut:toothy10:

I did 4 years in the Navy working on MH-53E. It is a realy big transport helo. It was also used to find under water mines.http://www.hm14.navy.mil/HM14_photos.htm

Planes of Fame in Chino, CA is a good place to go to see some cool aircraft. So is March field air museum.

That B-52D 679 was one of ours at Carswell AFB,Tx.,where i was stationed for nine years (72 to 81).

You Ft Worth guys know a Captain by the name of Coleman (C.J.) Vaughn? He flew B-52s and was slated to go to B-1. I know he retired but did fly sorties over Afganastan and he did do a fly by over my house (not on pupose) when he and his plane and crew did the air show in Chicago. Anyone???

I was working on my pilots license but had to quite temporarily due to money. I hope to start back soon. I was flying a Cessna 172 SkyHawk.

Carswell lost it's B-52's in the mid-ninety's and the base got on the closure list. The Dallas Naval Air Station was saved but in very poor condition,so they made a joint reserve base out of Carswell. It's under control of the Navy now,but the Navy,A.F.,Marines and Army all have people that are stationed there.
