Anyone running a ford 3g alternator in their car or know of anyone who has? I've been toying around with the idea if swapping one into my car to eliminate the external voltage regulator. They're easy enough to work with and pretty well designed alternators my past experience with swapping them into things has been great. I doesn't hurt that I have 3 of them kicking around my garage and they're easy to come by in junkyards in working condition. It wouldn't be my first time doing this I upgraded a '78 bronco I used to have from an externally regulated 1G unit to a 3G an rewired to match, for under $60 I got 3 tested good alternators an 2 years later the first one was still going great. I'm just curious if there are any good internally regulated mopar alts that I could find with similar availability and good output around the yards? Looking at using a ferd refugee as more of a convenience thing than anything, since I already know their wiring.

I don't know a thing about 'em. But if you have access, can make them "fit up" good, why not??

Near as I can tell it should fit fine, I still have the modified V belt pulley I made to fit onto one. Brackets are similar to how I had my bronco bolted up and should be close as long as I use one with the correct case.

I figure I might as well try it an report my results, I'm using an EZ wiring harness and bypassing the ammeter so I think I should be ok as far as amperage is concerned. If there's enough interest I'll do a write up on it as soon as I get around to electrical.

...interested. 3G alternators are everywhere...and the lowest amp version of one is like 95-105A if memory serves.

Planning on putting one in the Dart some year when I get that far. Swapped one into our old Fairlane, it's charging system was just about as miserable as Ma Mopars. Had no complaints after the swap.....
