My dad Bought a 1963 Dodge Polara 4 door from his brother in 1979. It was all stock with a 318 and was a stock blue color, he bought it and had it painted a cool metallic (chevy) dark blue. He also Built a 440 for it and put chrome traction bars and a 8 3/4 posi in it and white letter tires and chrome SST wheels.

He drove the car until 1982 when he decided that he wanted to put his money into his cuda and build that engine for it. He ended up selling it to a guy as a roller.

He never herd about it again and we both just assumed it was crushed or in a junkyard somewhere. :violent1:

Here comes the interesting part .,

A customer and former high school friend of my dads came into his shop one day and happened to mention that there was a old Polara that looks just like his old one sitting in his buddies field in Lincoln,Vt. We kind of brushed it off and forgot about it until this past winter and decided we would go take a look at it in the middle of a snowstorm, Hey, why not?..... we went to the provided address and sure enough that's his old Polara sitting in the middle of the field next to a rusty power shovel. It still had everything he sold it with except the guy threw a 318 in it and cut the rad. support for a giant radiator.

One way he recognized right away that it was his old car is a dent in the drivers side fender from one of his winter beaters rolling into it, :violent1:

The car was last registered in 1985 and has been sitting in that field until we came about it,

I ended up buying it for a whopping $200 ....:D what am I going to do with it ?? I don't know.. anything but sell it, I find it awesome to find this car practically untouched from when my dad had it. if the frame is ok then I will patch the floor pans and trunk if there bad with a rivet gun and some metal and some paint and if the quarters are rusty , I will have a body shop repair it and blend the paint , I will redo the int. and all suspension, brakes. new traction bars, kinda like a cheap beater , haha anything cheap while I build my dart

These are all the pics I have now from when we looked at it, horrible pics but you get the idea, I will have to scan some old ones later , sorry for the long and most likely boring read.

I had a two door version many many moons ago (about 40 years I think), I wish i still had it, I love the body style. Same faded blue too!

cool! It needs all floors front and rear, trunk floor, trunk lid ,front fenders, hood The front frame rails and torsion bar mount are good, the rear frame rails are a lil crusty but not falling off, oh and needs a passenger front door but it does seem to have a 8 3/4 in it .

ya, to be honest I don't know what the orig. engine is.... the vin just says its a v8 but I have the fender tag and will take a look, it also says its a "taxi" does anybody happen to know what that means?

Maybe a 318 pol, a 361 or 383 big block, I would think.... #-o

That's great that you were able to get your dad's old car back in the family. :blob:

Take a good look

What you have in there is a mid 70's 318, identified by the heat stove on the driver side exhaust, and the EGR valve on the intake. The "style" of the oil breather is also of that later era. It of course has the later timing cover / water pump set up. Pretty sure that is not a 360, "estimating" by the bore of the intake barrels

That car would have come with a 318 poly, sometimes incorrectly called a "wide block" MAYBE a 361, or a 318. Doubt that you could get a 413 in a 4 door, maybe a police car.

I've seen a 273 in a 65, "I guess" that was original. This car here of course was before 273s were 'out'

okay, as I said my dad bought it with no engine and put in a cop car 440 and sold it as a roller and the guy I bought it from put this 318 in,

Somehow I missed that. What IS the VIN?

The vin is 6835164915 . when I went to check the vin it got me all confused, I guess earlier cars have numbers.

I decoded the vin and all it said that it was a v8 taxi 1963 polara built In California

My dad special ordered a 62 Sport Fury Convertible back in the day. He got sick of all of the salesman trying to sell him the ones with 318 poly's in them. He even walked out on a few dealers who got too pushy and tried to high pressure sale him into a 318.

He told them that he wanted the 361, which was the biggest engine that they offered in it at the time. Shortly after he got his, they came out and offered the 413 in them. That's why I suggested the 413 also. They were available in the sport Fury late in 62, so they should have been available in 63 if they offered it in that body style.

I am going to see if a mod can move this to members restorations...

Plans changed, I sent a flatbed to go get the polara and bring it to my dad's shop. They dropped it off Friday and we went this past Saturday and took every wheel and drum off to loosen up all wheels, we then emptied out the whole car and brought it to my garage.

After examining the car more .. Here Is a list of its metal needs so far

2 replacement front fenders
Front valance
Hood
Rear bumper
Trunk lid
Quarter work
Full floor pan and trunk pan ect ect.

The whole frame is good though.

Last night I started trying to strip it.

I took off 2 of the hood bolts to find the other 2 are completely rounded , I managed to brake 3 bolts on other stuff. I removed the rear window trim witch is very nice and also the two rear door side trims.... I then soaked everything bolt overnight..

I also decoded the fender tag to determine the car is a "taxi" price group dual manual mirrors 383 4brl car!!!!!!!

Here's some pics
