Freiburger's Duster for sale. NOT MINE

-
MY thought. That car at that price (if he did get the price) will go into a collection of someone that has 20-30 more cars in a warehouse.
A "just because" purchase.

I had no doubt someone would pony up the cash.. it was worth it to someone.. if I was in a position to piss away 15 grand on memorabilia.. I would have bought it. People will try to use that as a point of reference for the value the same as mecum an Barrett Jackson auctions do. They will try at least lol..

I enjoy the Roadkill/Roadkill Garage shows.. makes it real easy when you don’t have to deal with the long term effects of your decisions working on stuff.. it just needs to work well enough to survive a few episodes. It was a bit irritating how often so called “car guys” would get stuff wrong.

When they did the episode where they v8/4spd swapped the duster was one instance.. calling the 833 a hemi 4spd. Yes hemi 4spds are 833s but not all 833s are hemi 4spds. Also that expensive starter that supposedly was the only one that would fit with TTI headers that later didn’t.. that specific starter was for a flywheel tooth count they weren’t using. They also neglected to mention how you’ll also need the TTI Z bar to work with those headers… but I digress. The average car fan doesn’t know the difference or even care.. they’ll find out soon enough if/when they try to do the same swap.

It’s almost like watching actors cosplay as car people.. except these are supposed to be actual car people.

I don't fault him for asking $15k for an $8k car and getting it. When I advertised my 68 fastback for $60k I was reaching for the stars "so I thought" I sold it for less. Then the guy took it to Mecum and it sold for $110k after buyers premium. The market is CRAZY and in no way was my car worth $110k UNTIL IT WAS...................

Yeah that pretty much sums it up. I mean, I think for most people that’s a $7-$8k car. But it’s got recognition and a memorabilia angle, so, doesn’t surprise me at all.

I don’t put Freiburger on some kind of pedestal, but just looking at the pictures of that thing I’d be willing to bet my opinion of him would go down if I had to fix some of the stuff on that car

Here is the thing. You buy a car for the icon, and you get 10 minutes of fame. Does anyone know where the Mayhem Charger is???? A small Mopar channel got it and now it's just .... lost in the norm shuffle without a following. This Duster will be the same in a day. I hope the buyer likes it or him enough that it will still thrill him in a year. Unless it's Elvis's car ....

General Mayhem charger is owned by Freiburger. He won’t let that one go any time soon. General Maintenance (the hellcat dolled up to look like the 68) is owned by the show runner Mason.
Must be another charger then, see how quickly they go away? Same with all the cars Derrick from VGG sells. In a minute they are just what the common market will pay. Now a car from a classic movie is a whole new thing.

We know if that car was owned by John Q. Public, there is no way it would sell and some would post it in humor as the Mopar Tax. But happy for David, he seems like a good guy.
He is. And he’s taking advantage of being in the hot rod spot light for 30 years. And that’s perfectly fine. We’d all do the same. He’s done more for the hobby in the last 15 years than just about anyone, Derek and Cleetus aren’t far behind. Im fine with whatever tax they put on cars for that reason, if someone is buying, don’t fault the seller for selling.

I agree. Us that didn't do the spot light would still take the money if offered LOL

His short stent owning the 440 powered 68 Dart GT is what made me take the plunge in owning another. Just so happened to be the same GT trim level at that. When he did the “cheap thrills” Dart in hotrod magazine back in the 90s, that article ran the same year I picked up my first 68 Dart. However I didn’t get into the 12s for 2500 bucks as he did. Being in SoCal versus rural Louisiana made access to all of the parts/cars effortless. Thanks to the internet, I’ve been able to make my car what it is today..

I was glad to see Derek end up with the 440 68 Dart.. looking forward to what else he has planned for it.

When I read stuff from dudes that trash talk anything that isn't a platinum level restoration, I think what a pain in the *** they must be to be around.
For those that strive for perfection with no tolerance or understanding for anything less, feel free to keep your high standards while the overwhelming majority of others are having fun with lesser cars.
Do you not remember what it is like to be short on cash but still have great desire to drive a fun car?
Keep your virtue signalling ways to yourself. Most people will not be impressed that your car is trailered everywhere, never gets washed with actual water, has never made a pass down the strip or hasn't even been over 5000 rpms it's entire existence.
Let the rest of us enjoy what we like doing.
I liked the Roadkill shows. They inspired people to get old classics out of the field and driving again. Sure, it would be nice to see them painted with full interiors and mechanically functional but if they all had the stick up the butt mentality that it has to be perfect, otherwise forget it entirely, only the affluent 1% would have these cars.

Personally, I love roadkill style cars. I was Roadkill before TV or Youtube ever had that name. I think mostly of what I seen here is price vs car. If you forget who the seller is.... a slant Duster with a junkyard swapped 5.9 (sounds like me!!!!), rust holes in the roof, and all over, shot interior... just doesn't ring a 15 grand handshake... but then you figure in the seller...

General Mayhem made me miss the days of my youth where we made the best of what we had. Cheap (affordable) muscle cars we bolted together with whatever we could find. Pounded the crap out of them till something broke and started all over again.

This 69 Charger R/T 440 4 speed was a prime example. I paid $800 for it in 1983 and beat the holy hell out of it for a year. Took the tires and wheels off of it and sold it for $500 to the next guy who beat the crap out of it even more. We drove our cars year round , driving a 440 4 speed Charger with 8" of snow was a hair raising experience!!!
