I just picked up my freshly rebuilt LA 360 yesterday, and hopefully will have it in my newly acquired '72 Dart swinger in the next week or so.

I am sure you will, I bought a newly rebuilt 350, checked all rod caps and head bolts to tq specifications, I had three rod cap bolts to loose,
Good luck and congratulations

I worked at a couple of machine shops (non automotive) before landing a 'good' job that offered a 3 year apprenticeship in 1980 but before that, I saw some pretty good screw ups but what was even more amazing were the ones with 20+ years experience screwing up! Not saying I never did but man, some machinists just didn't care for the job as much as they cared about the paycheck. And speaking of checks....I always check anything that someone else machined. The worse screw up was a block that had been align honed and was .003" out of round and this thing was done at a shop that built pro stock engines! Another block from another race oriented shop left a cylinder with a .001" hour glass finish. Not that bad for a passenger car engine with .003 piston clearance but this engine was being built with .001" piston clearance and the skinny part of the hour glass is 0 clearance. But how much wear will a .001" hour glass finish place on the rings? Don't know and didn't want to find out.....and for sure wasn't going to run it with that 0 thing in the middle of the cylinder lol

The 360 sure looks pretty. What's in it???
It is a pretty mild build, .020 over Speedpro pistons, 9.0:1 compression, rebuilt 360 heads with stainless valves, 340 cam, Edelbrock Performer intake, not sure what carb I will use yet.. The builder says it should be north of 300hp.

".003 " out of round? that chit will seat itself on startup...run it till it dies...:)
.003 out of round on the mains? Not me!

Did however mess up pretty bad on piston to head clearance. A guy that wanted to help....or me help him....thought I had checked that and I thought he had checked it. .019 worked fine until he hit the funny gas button lol. It ran 10.0 off the trailer and for 2 more passes and well.....the next pass blew out a cylinder within 30 feet off the line. This was the same engine that had the .003 out of round mains that got corrected. This engine was doomed from the get go. He was the first and last person to let someone 'help' :D

I know I was being a doofus, but I have heard people say such things people who know better. You know the ".003..." Run it..LOL!

I know you were goofing but in reality....the guy that the engine was being built for said "it'll be fine"! He was in a hurry and wanted to make a race that was coming up and well, told him no way. This thing ended up needing more work than he thought it was going to need all the way to making the MSD distributor fit with the valve covers on the Indy heads.....and on and on and on. Even the valve covers needed some machine work to bolt them on. Seems like the aftermarket back then didn't make stuff to fit Mopars. Anyways, ended up running 9.30 on a small shot of the funny gas in a 3600 lb car. Had lots of fun back then even thou there were lots of screw ups with the motor and the car. Barely made the race he wanted to attend but did ok.
