Fuel Cell or Not?

Hi, I have a 69 Dart with a 360/408 stroker, 727, and narrowed Dana 60 w/ leaf spring relocation. It was an 1/8 mile bracket car that I'm converting to a street car. I'm looking to put a new exhaust on the car, it currently doesn't have one. I'd like to put tail pipes on the car but there isn't much room to get over the rear. So I was considering dropping a fuel cell in the spare tire well and had a few questions.

1. Which cell should I use?
2. How big of a cell will fit in the stock spare tire well?
3. I currently have a mechanical fuel pump, should I switch over to electric and if so which one?
4. I have a fuel pressure regulator now, but there is no return. Would I need to add one?
5. Would it be possible to still have a fuel level gauge when using a cell?

Just looking for some general guidance and options.

A better solution than losing your trunk.

Aeromotive stealth cell or call hotrod city garage and get a slightly modified aluminum stock replacement cell.

The stealth cell work perfect and comes with an in tank submersed pump.

I have a 12 gallon plastic cell, I used 1" box steel welded to 1/16" thick plates over the spare tire well. it fits just right, then I used a Holley blue pump bolted to an angle bracket that I welded inside of the spare tire well, it looks nice and clean that way.

if you use a pump like the Holley blue, red, or black series you can run a deadhead regulator with no return, there is probably a million of those pumps in use and they work GREAT!

Also some fuel cells have provisions for a sending unit so you can use a fuel guage
 
I run a holley black. x2 on deadhead being ok to run with that pump. I'd mount it outside the car for safety, pump longevity and noise
 

personally I like electric fuel pumps because of the controllability, and that if mechanicals pumps go bad it can fill the engine with fuel. but mechanicals are fine though, my buddy runs one on his 11 second 347 f100 pickup

IMO a tank inside the trunk that is street driven is a death trap. Get something to work mounted outside.
 
I made my own 20 gallon stainless steel tank.
I set it up to use the stock pickup. (Not hard to do.)
I added extra bungs down low for future upgrades.
I did my own because I wanted the exhaust to run out the back and also carry enough fuel to make a 400 km drive without having to stop for fuel.
