Fuel/exhaust smell

My 65 Dart with 318 with 1406 electric choke suddenly has a strong fuel/exhaust smell when started and running. No fuel leaks any where that I can see. Checked pcv fitting going to carb, seems ok. Looked at breather on on other valve cover, seems ok, the filter/foam inside breather is quite dirty, would that cause smell? Car runs fine just smelly Can you clean that foam filter in breather? Would air cleaner be a issue, looks clean. Thanks

If you're claiming it came on suddenly a fuel leak sounds more likely. Fuel and rich exhaust smell pretty different but I'm not there so I have no idea what you are describing.
