Ok so I bought put after market guages in my car Fake auto meter and the fuel guage was 73-10 reading but was allways crap.I found out the hard way that 1/4 a tank is dead empty but now its not reading at all it flickers ever so often tho.I used the muiltimeter and I am getting no reading from the wire of the sending unit its self.Does this men the sending unit is bad.

Where are you taking this reading?

Do you have the meter set to read "ohms"? (resistance)

You can NOT get "no reading" the meter must display SOMETHING. An ohmeter shows 3, on some meters 4 possibilities:

1--Some numerical resistance

2--infinity

3--Dead short, or zero ohms or close to it

4--on some meters, "out of range" which may be a dashed line, etc, depending on meter brand

Try running a clip lead from the sender wire to ground, then turn the key to "run" and see if the gauge quickly heads for the "full" mark.

Ok so I hooked the auto meter gauge up and it read 3/4 of a tank. Not sure if thats right but its better then pinned on full like the other gauge. So that means that the gauge is bad or the wiring from were I checked to the gauge is broke somewere.

How can I test to see if the gauge is bad or its the wiring.
