Fuel line routing

Hey Ladies and Fellas (Are there more ladies than PV and CC1968?.... there must be right?)

Have i made a mistake by routing the braided fuel lines outside sub frame, through torque box and through frame? Right now i have some heater hose run through that shows the route and will house the -6 line. The second pic is up through the torque box. I have not smoothed the edges yet.

I can easily undo by making patches and re routing. If it is supposed to be different.... where?

I can't see why that would be a problem. They seem well protected. One thing about fuel lines, brake lines, and oil pans... they should never be the lowest point on the chassis (1st to contact road!). Make sure you put some kind of grommet around the holes, or a piece of rubber around the hose where they are near the sheet metal edges.

Are you running that line or just showing how it's going to route? personally i don't think that's a good idea at all since a simple rock or other debris could nick it and cause a very serious problem.

Im using the (shown) heater hose as protection as it passes through the frame. The -6 line fits inside. I'm running the fuel line along the outside of frame rail along the length of the car.

Got it, sorry for the interruption. I have had people tell me the black stuff was braided because of the reinforcements in it, lol.. Umm no...
 
this line seems "medium duty" it has a braided outside, but it is not steel braided.
 
It will not be lowest point. Maybe I'm using the wrong stuff. I liked the black. Screwed by style selection?
 

Now I am confused. What kind/brand of lines are you using? What kind of fittings? Not everything on the market is suitable for fuel lines.
 
No worries, im happy to recieve your advice. Sniper stealth, -6 feed and return, using AN fittings. The line is this black stuff, it's a cloth like braid with some steel reinforcement. Hope the pics capture. I have the classic steel reinforced with steel braid for comparison. There is some steel in the black line impregnated into the rubber, it lacks the steel outside...see what I'm saying? I wonder if this black line will pass tech.... although i probably won't be at the track all that much. If ever. Just trying to build it to pass snuff for safety n stuff.

Since the car has been mini tubbed and sub framed , it seems like I'm better off just doing my own thing. I might have X amount into fuel system, but i can put it where i want. Dunno man.... just a guy... tryin....

I appreciate the guidance though.

So, does this line pass tech?

Would you run stock hard line from fuel log back?

Sorry, not trying to second guess you're decision, just understand. Me personally, I'm paranoid and pretty cheap so I bought a coil of hard line and will be bending my own. I'm sure it will be fine, but I wouldn't do it.

Also if you box in the hole you cut out in the frame your running it all through, it will strengthen the frame back up in that spot, and lessen the lines possibly chafing on a metal edge. Even with heater hose around it, a sheetmetal edge can rub. I recommend you use rubber cushioned P clamps or "Adel" clamps to support your line the entire length.

I think I'd check with the manufacturer regarding durability. That nylon or whatever it is on the outside can be really tough stuff. It looks pretty good to me, especially if it has steel braid inside (hard to see in the picture). I've had -6 stainless braided lines (mostly Aeroquip/Earls) on my whole fuel system for many years. There is really no problem with it other than expense. And I guess if you're worried about a few extra pounds.
 
It seems like durable stuff. Not as durable as the steel braided on the outside line. This stuff has steel reinforcement embedded in the rubber with a braided cloth outside which is a poly-like material. When I was pulling it through the holes, it did not do anything to the outside. Another reason I wanted to use hose the whole way is that I suck, no matter how much I practice, at bending lines. There is no way I could have bent a continuous line the path I took. So , there would have been a couple unions and a couple places to leak. Ill go back and do some moparmatt reinforcement on the cut holes to round out the edged a bit more. I did protect it with heater hose through all areas plus a couple inches on both sides, and with proper "P" clamps, it should not have a chance of rubbing through. Ill send a picture of final product when done.

So this is where we are with this line. The voice of some still echoing in my head that running hard line would have been the way to go, but I'm in deep now.

I ran some conduit through the frame and welded it in with plates. I split some hose for the in/out so no rubbing anywhere. Still have to secure it to outside of frame rail and finish the run to tank with filter on the rail as well. Whatcha think?
