I have a 70 383 all rebuilt, new carb, fuel lines and sender. When I crank it up the filter fills up with fuel but after a day are two it will drain out of the filter. This isn't perking out it is just starting for and letting it fill the filter up. Does the fuel pump have a valve to stop this are they made where they'll drain back? It is a brand new pump. Has any one else run into this? Ronnie

I think there is a check valve - but that beign said I've had plenty drain back before too. It usually oes not cause a problem. The carb holds plenty of fuel to start it.

On a hot day mine would drain back AND the Eddie carb would evaporate empty.
Used to bug the crap outta me to crank it untill it got the fuel levels back up again.

Swapped out to an electric pump, and problem gone.
Also if you end up running out of gas ever, you don't have to crank the crap out of it to get fuel to the carb again.

To answer your question, yes the factory stuff does that.

i think it just depends where the pump arm stops when you shut the engine off. some days my filter is full and will stay full , other days its half full or almost empty.

my 2 pennies
