Fusible link question

If it was reeealy short, it could effect the thermal effects in the wire; the connecting lugs could remove or add heat to the wire. I would suspect that once you get to 6" or 8" or longer, it would not have enough effect to make much difference.

The above would be of concern for mild overlaods. A hard short should take it out regardless of length.
 

...........And if you add much more "than it needs" bear in mind that a fuse link is essentially an undersized piece of wire. If you ran say, a foot or more, you would start to have operational voltage drop issues.
