Gear Change 74 Dart

I bought 3.55 gears for my Dart and am having a problem getting them in. The car originally came with something like 2.43 gears. I can bolt the gears into the carrier but it won't line up with the pinion. My son read that there is a different carrier for anything over 2.56, is that correct? It's an 8.25 differential.

Yes the 2.45 gear set uses a different carrier than the 2.71 and up.

Yes I just confirmed it with National Moparts, seems Chrysler used the 2.45 and its carrier for fuel economy starting in 74. Oh well they have a B body 8.25 axle for me that I can pull the carrier out of. If I'm lucky it will be a Sure Grip!!!
