Is it possible to swap just the low first gear from a 833OD into a regular 23 spline 833? There is probably a reason I just don't know what it is, since I haven't heard of it being done before.

The matching gear on the mainshaft has to be changed too. They are a matched set. I may have the terminology wrong.

hi, in a word, nope. will not fit or mesh up. the gear is a different diameter versus other gear.in 833, you have to change the whole gear set. the ratios are all different in all the gears. the tooth count and diameters are all different. ratios are, 2.66, 1.91, 1.39, 1.00, 2.47, 1.77, 1.34, 1.00, 3.09, 1.92, 1.40, 1.00. OD is 3.09, 1.67 1.00, .73 od

NOT so fast . If we are talking about the 1st gear on the SHAFT, ie the rear most gear, yes you could. Count the teeth, if it is 35 teeth, you are good to go.[ 3.09 , 2.66, OD ] all use a 35 tooth rearmost 1st gear. The counter gear differs, yes.

Is it possible to go the opposite way? standard 833 gearset in an OD trans? Or possible changing a few of the gears inside to not have such a wide spread between gears, associated with the OD?

Like gliderider06 I am also interested in finding out if you can do close ratio o/d set up similar to Passions. They use a 2.66 first, 1.59 second, 1.1 third and .8 4th. Seems cool but $1900 for a set of gears is way to much for me.
