I am using Ron Francis wiring harness on my hemi project. They recommend using a fast acting maxi fuse and for it to be higher than your alternators output. Use a 8 or 6 gauge wire depending on your output of the alternator.
They highly advise to not use any fusible links because of them being a fire hazard.
This thread made me check my wiring. I am using the stock truck wiring that came with my engine and upon inspection I see it has a fusible link in the alternator wire.
Has anyone ever run a breaker? That seems like it might be a nice compromise between a fused link and a fuse. Wouldn't be a fast acting as a fuse, so it might not trip by accident on a quick power surge like firing up headlamps for instance.
