Use the square HEI e-coils in place of the old style yellow One above.

Wire to straight 12 volts, no ballast resistor.

These are a nice style E-coil with the 2 spades for + & - hookup.

'95 Ford F150 at Rockauto, work great. The e-coil is what gives it the quick starts and helps keep the plugs burning Cleaner.

Manual steering and brakes on an 84? Sounds like my 79 was except for that one was "3 on the tree"
I thought they made power steering and brakes "standard" by 81-82ish.... Weird to see one with neither of them, as new as yours is.
 
Best to swap out the LB before it fails. My 85 D150 smoked the lean burn and stranded me in Redding CA for three days. LB control units arent really available, and no shop could help me because of CA emissions laws.
In the end, the parts list was for a '74 D150

Ignition control module
Ballast resistor
Carburetor
Wire harness w plugs for dist & ecm
That must have sucked! Did you sleep in the truck or get a room?
