Texture of the paint, Bulk at the center of the foil. But you either have to have them side by side, or "remember" what they were like back in the 60s/70s. I bought a pretty good repro in about 2000. Sorry, I don't recall the mfg name, but they advertised heavily in the mags of the late 90s/early 2000s. I think the hardware was different too. I'm quite happy with mine.
 
It has a sorta rough texture and where you set the angle it has a allen head bolts. Looks well built
 
My repop gull wing from Authentic Restoration has the part number and the Pentastar on the underneath. Both are extremely faint. I had to look very carefully to see them.

really? that's messed up - how's anybody to know an original one... maybe the original ones have better stampings?
