Well, it turns out that AMD only makes full quarter panels. I don't need to replace the entire panel. Both Goodmark and Sherman make quarter panel skins for the 71 Darts. Anyone here have any experience with either of these panel brands with respect to fit and crispness of the body lines? It looks like that while cheaper, I wouldn't be able to get the Goodmark panels until near the end of September. That would set my plans back a bit, but I might have to reconsider if the quality of the parts is worth the wait. I would like to hear of your experiences. Thanks. L8r

Jim,

Aftermarket body panel suppliers today all use offshore (Taiwan or Chinese ) suppliers whether it be Sherman or whoever.

This being said you are getting sub OEM quality body panels, they will all need major re-work to make them fit and look correct.

IMO if you are looking for a show quality job they are better left to a professional or a seasoned hobbyist.

Sherman has been in business for a long time, and were the only company doing replacement parts for years before these other companies started up. With that being said, they don't make any of their own parts, but their supplier is out of Canada somewhere. In their catalog they used to have a 5 point grading system with #1 being a perfect replacement panel and #5 being a unit which requires extensive massaging to even be acceptable. I remember their 67-9 Dart rear quarters were always listed as #5 and to quote them "should only be considered when no other unit can be found". At least they were honest about their products. I think they have moved away from the vintage car area and concentrate much more on the collision market. They're in Michigan where we get a lot of fenderbenders during the winter, so they probably make a killing on us!!! I'm with Jim, go with the AMD, they cater much more to the enthusiast market!!
