Got a new Truck (new to me)

-
Casey, do you take the truck back and forth between MN & FL, or just leave it in FL?

Just leave it outside in Florida for now. Don't like leaving out in the hot Sun, so I park it under a Palm Tree behind my little tool shed on the South end of my lot.

Really would like to get a 2 car garage up or at least a carport to park things under to keep them out of the rain and sun, but not in the cards right now > other priorities.

I am enjoying running around with the truck here in the Palm Bay / Melbourne area. Kind of my little social thing as people always take time to come talk to me about it. It's actually pretty snappy being all the pollution crap went bye, bye and the 4 barrel secondaries gets it moving out > like it Hauls the Mail...

Let's say like it hauls the mail maybe 50 years ago. Mail delivery today sucks. LOL

Pony Express "Haulin' the Mail" especially when the bad guys are closing in shooting at you > time to add a little more fuel and Get Some Distance Between Me and Them.

Yeah, that' more like it. With injuns chasin um. lol

Just when you think everything is going along OK.

Came out this afternoon and there was a Star window chip in my front windshield, drove it yesterday and it was not there and parked since.

Possibly a stray BB gun, who knows, but enough to tick you off sitting here in the yard.

Right near the driver's line of sight, went to AutoZone and got the repair kit.

Certain steps to go through in the shade.

Then send it out in the Sun to UV cure just before the Sun went down.

Backed in back into the park spot, hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Just a little speck there above the steering wheel from this angle, I can live with that.

Battle Scars as our mopars are coming through time.

1989 Dodge D100

318 with factory 302 closed chamber heads.

904 trans

8 1/4" rear end with tall gear 2.76 open diff.

95,000 miles from Alabama, so the roof top is not rusted off like the Florida Salt Air does.

Cleanest body I have seen while on the hunt for the next "318" Truck.

The most important first repair to do was to clean out all the old cracked roof drip rail caulking, grind it clean.

Then Prime with high build Primer Surfacer, let dry 1 hour, then reseal the Roof Cap Seam with 3M All-Around-Autobody-Seam-Sealer.

Enjoying cleaning things up. Can hardly wait till the 4 bbl hits the scene.

Here is a little tease of what the Truck is now.

Complete Truck, not hacked over, original. Just needed an in the tank electric fuel pump. Going to be converting it to a 4 barrel, manual fuel pump so that in the tank pump will not be an issue.

Enjoy.....

Nice find, My Uncle had a 1989, 2 toned red and silver. He drove the s**t out if that truck. When he finally sold it, it had alittle over 350k miles.

Had a new chrome 10" air cleaner when I did the carb conversion.

Cheep chrome and Florida salt coastal air starts them rusting right away.

Scuff down the air cleaner top and wipe on some of my favorite Home Depot Chain Link Fence paint.

Most amazing paint, locks down the rust for years.

Back to looking good again, instead of looking tacky.

That looks good!

Casey, refresh my memory here! Did all of your accessories like wipers, lights, etc, still work when you yoinked the old computer out from behind the battery? I need to slap a carb and ignition on my 88 to make it movable until I can transplant the 5.9 Magnum and 518.

The air cleaner refresh looks nice.

OK, here is what I did. I stripped every bit of original wiring off the engine and alternator. Except oil send unit for the factory gauge.

Did the 1 wire HEI mopar electronic distributor conversion, added a manual fuel pump at the front timimg cover.

The computer wiring remained plugged in to run the start curcuit, turn signals, headlights and oil pressure gauge. Pulled one hot wire to run the HEI off the wiring block under the driver's hood hinge. Keyed hot wire.

Swapped out a new and little larger Sun Shade Tarp to the Shade Framework today.

Old tarp was 8 x 10, new tarp is 10 x 12 is setup snug and tight.

Setup to drain off the right side. Stood up to a 2" rain and wind that just passed here East Coast Florida this evening.

Very happy with the results and a little more useful shade.

Have been using the truck right along as a daily driver here in Florida.

Being 1 mile from the ocean, with salt mist always in the air, it was time to lube everything that pivots with PB Blaster.

Things get easily dried out and can easily start rusting if lube maintenance is not kept up.

Hood hinges and latch, door hinges and latches, dome light door switches, throttle linkages inside and out, kickdown linkages, plus lube various exposed nut and bolts. Steering shaft and column as needed.

Check all fluid levels, everything is staying up good. Tighten belts to spec.

Everything works so much nicer with a little clean up and lube.

So far, so good.

Backed off the kickdown linkage 2 turns to soften up the shifts. Easy relaxed driving in the city.

Was a good adjustment, like the way it drives now.

I am not out there tearing it up. Just out and about running errands.

Just got in a new Heavy Duty Turn Signal Flasher.

20251119_152329.jpg

Factory one flashes a mile a minute too fast and is quiet. Hate to think how fast it would flash hooking up and pulling a trailer plugged in?

20251119_153100.jpg

I know it's going to be tight getting up in there under the dash... wherever it is???

Probably make up some jumper wires and mount it on the lower lip of the dash where a person can to it.

You should have plenty of room for the switch, installed in the factory position. Should be a two-prong clip under the dash facing on the right side of the steering wheel. BTW, the HD flasher is meant for towing another item with additional lighting.

Yeah, got a tow hitch on it now and has been wired for trailer.

Lots of trailers and a tow dolly to pull around here.

Got to have stuff, got to be able to move stuff.

And thanks for explaining the position of where the hell that flasher relay would be. Hard to find it just by the weak sound and feeling around.

Thanks

Went out there this late afternoon under the sun shade digging around under the dash with the TS on.

Still can't find that SOB turn signal relay. Can hear it but can't feel it. Stuffed up in there high in the Air Condition Dash.

Would think you could feel the heartbeat in one of the wires...but no...

Found the little shorty relay for the emergency flashers at the lower dash edge left side steering column.

Screw it for now > some other day. Knew it was going to be a Beoch.
