i bought a gps to use in my 74 dart. when i plug it in i get nothing. even the light on the cord isn't coming on. the cig lighter works when you push it in. any idea's

Maybe check the plug in, I think they have fuses in them.
Test it in another car and outlet that you know works and see if it will.
If not, there's something wrong with the gps, likely a fuse as stated above or a bad power cord...

What sort of connector? If it's "mini USB" you might have another device that fits it. "Be Gentle," lol

That might at least tell you if it's the device or the charging cable. As above, many of those 12V plugs have fuses.....unscrew the end "thingie."
Also, sometimes, the plastic to metal lashup just "doesn't like" some lighter sockets
