Guess who's back

Good on the VM; it will be a highly useful tool for you. I'm looking at a '70 Dart schematic and the dark blue wire goes to the coil and will have the lower voltage when running. It will have full battery voltage when cranking which is coming from the ignition switch through the brown wire but only when cranking. The other end of the ressitor will have 12 volts or better on it when the ignition switch is in the ON position.

If the resistor was glowing red, then something is drawing excess current. (Duh!) Was the car running when this happened? If so, then if you have another coil, put that in and see. It could be a partially shorted coil. Is there any tach in the car?

BTW, you can find a schematic online for your car; they are not that hard to folow and I think it would help you a lot with troubleshooting this issue. BTW, here is a thread with your box in a simplified schematic: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=205462
