Pretty flexible on both, trying to stay under 1k on price and must be Mildot or something that is equivalent with range graduations. Sadly I am old and cut my teeth on Mildot so I invariably default to it. But the modern stuff is really pretty darn good. But I do not like a scope that is so busy I lose myself in it. If that makes any sense at all?

I posted a picture when I snagged it let me check, I think I kept the picture? My buddy who owns Nighthawk actually purchased Cooper so they are now made in Arkansas.

Here ya go Boys, celebrity pix. My buddy is center, Mark who owns Nighthawk custom “ one gun one gunsmith” You want a piece of art buy one of his pistols! Anyway my rifle is in 300 win mag. I bought mine (wood stock) and one for my boy who was retiring from 82nd Airborne ( laminated). They are actually a very limited version of Cooper rifles from Montana. They had a few in inventory, receiver still stamped Cooper of Montana but they were in fact assembled and made in Arkansas. Super limited run. I think less than 100 rifles? We got two of them. Now of course they are Cooper Rifles of Arkansas. I am on the far left one of my buddies is far right, Mark owner of Nighthawk is center!

Thanks! Like most in his generation our boy prefers synthetic or laminate stocks vs traditional wood. And of course stainless. While my brain fully understands the advantages of both my heart just loves traditional wood on a blued bolt rifle. To me it is sheer elegance. If I give up a bit of performance and maint I figure my ineptitude behind the rifle will more than offset any advantage. Hah! I get guys on our range all the time arguing over “X” MOA advantage and I think to myself, the guys ability does not get anywhere near 1 MOA!
Exactly! Most guys I know are happy to hit a pie plate at 100 yards and they’re ready to go deer hunting! I have one stainless laminated rifle and one with a synthetic stock that I put on since I couldn’t find a recoil pad that would fit my 700 ADL without a bunch of work. I too appreciate a fine walnut stock with a blued barrel.

Ok, in my absolute most sheepish voice, full disclosure I have done absolutely nothing with it. In my head somehow I want the event to be a bit ceremonial as the rifle is super special to me since it is paired with our boy’s retirement gift rifle. Thus I am waiting to mount the scope I want on it first. Then, all bets are off! I was just so proud and frankly relieved that our Boy was able to retire (safely). He did multiple tours in the desert. His wife filmed him opening the rifle box as he was under the impression it was something totally different, a BB gun for his boy I think. Anyway when he opened it he was brought to tears. That kind of special. It was a good day.

Any 10/22 nerds? I just installed a new barrel and it sticks into the reciever pretty far. Wasnt sure if this was concerning.

I’m not near mine but I thought the bolt bottoms out on the barrel and headspace is set by the bolt face recess? I put a new Feddersen barrel on my 1022 last year but for the life of me I can’t remember checking out of anything other than just bottoming it out and tightening the screws. It shoots less than 1/2” at 50yds with cci standard velocity ammo with the can installed so I’m not messing with it even if it’s wrong.
How does it feed? I'm no expert. Keeep your face away from the breach. It's a 22.

From what I have found it seems like the barrel does protrude into the receiver like this on the 10/22. Im going to run it this week snd see what happens.

Please do not quote me and or think I have any idea what I am doing as it has been many years since I went down the Ruger 10/22 rabbit hole but I want to say you are correct. I have not messed with them since our kids were little. Just a great platform and so many aftermarket options it is endless. To this day I have a bone stock one mounted on front of our farm work four wheeler. For rodents and such. It is a little tack driver with a 4X scope. Thing is durable and reliable as a 350 Chevy! Hah!

I don't like 22's, but wanted to build one for yote's on my place. They come in close, at night. So......I spent a ton of money on boutique parts and used a Ruger suppressed barrel. It looks great. However, It's not really functioning. The tolerances are too tight with these cool-guy parts. I tried sighting it in at my FFL's range, twice. It's working like a bolt action. I haven't touched it in 2-3 years. More junk that doesn't work.

Im a firm believer in keeping things simple if its a basic tool. The only reason i changed the barrel on mine was so I could mount a suppressor. Stock had to he changed to accept the larger barrel. Hopefully I can get to the range this week to see how it runs.
