Ok, I'm a 67 Barracuda geek, and a little overboard on the history details, so hang on if you're interested.

In 2008, within a few weeks, two people who never met, me being one, each bought a 67 Barracuda a few miles (200) from where they were originally sold new and brought them back east, to within a few miles (actual few miles). Both cars were quite original, one being a cream puff survivor cruiser, the other a well worn street bruiser.

According to the IBM buildcard/punch card for these 2 cars, they both have the exact same Shipped Date of Friday, May 26, 1967.

A few facts (strictly 1967 based knowledge):

Shipped Date
  • This is the actual date the vehicle was shipped.
  • The IBM Punchcard is the only document that lists the Shipped Date.
Shipping Order No.
  • This is the Scheduled Month and Scheduled Day, plus the 5 digit Sequence No.
  • IBM Punchcard lists it as, Shipping Order No.
  • Broadcast sheet lists it as, Shipping Order.
  • It is referred to as the Scheduled Production Date, yet this wording is not on either.
  • The Scheduled Month and Scheduled Day are also punched on the fender tag.
Scheduled Month and Scheduled Day are the date they 'hoped' to build the vehicle when the info first hit the system.

Yellow original notchback
Scheduled Production Date: May 29, 1967.
Region #55 = Wisconsin
Shipped to dealer in: Ripon, Wisconsin.

My car, green fastback
Scheduled Production Date: May 31, 1967.
Region #51 = Chicago, IL.
Shipped to dealer in: Naperville, Illinois.
Engine is stamped:
C383 - C = 1967, 383 = cubic inches
5 23 - May, 23rd
Block was cast 1-9-67

Both have M2 on the fender tag, aka 2nd line, the SO#s are 101 apart, and the VINs are 1,900 apart.

I list the engine info, not to claim the engine is 'numbers matching' (yes, no vin in 67), but to point out the car was shipped 3 days later.
Whether that is a long or short time or an indication of production vs shipped time I do not know, but interesting.

So, I'm looking for anyone with knowledge on the details, such as:
  • Were vehicles stored on the Hamtramck grounds prior to shipping, or loaded on transport asap?
  • Were they assembled on the same line strictly by body style?
  • How 'close' are these VINs and/or SO#s?
  • Any other specific knowledge on the process someone can share?
The big question: is it more likely than not that these two cars not only came down the same line on the same day, but were in the same exact lot, and/or placed on the same exact train?

I love the back stories almost more than the cars themselves.
I have 2 67 dart converts that were built in Hamtramic.

One is an odd ball.

It has a fender tag date of B01 (Nov 01 1966)
The IBM card says
Shipped date across the top of 01/14
The punched Shipped date says 11/14
The region is 12
And the dealer code is 17000

As best I can make out the 17000 was a demo car as no dealer code matches it.

My other dart matches it's shipped dares and build dates and dealer. The coolest thing is in the vin is the number sequence 6769

Also worthy of mention is the newspaper air scoop which was a dealer installed one year only option for A body big blocks. :)
