Quick question.... how do I tighten my crank shaft bolt to the harmonic balancer? Get some over--length bolts to fit the crank flange, put a bar between

Install an extra flex plate? Poke a bar through
 
Take the starter off, have a buddy hold a big screwdriver in the flywheel.
135 ft lbs is the torque spec. I know, it's sounds crazy, but that is the torque spec I came up with.
 
If the oil pan if off then I use a wooden hammer handle and place it between an arm on the crank and the side of the block. Works good.
 
I just get it started and then run it down with an impact gun. Obviously, you need to really watch the socket to see when it stops turning.

Probably not the recommended method but it works for me.
 
is this a new balancer?
has it been checked for fit?

most balancers come too small and need to be honed to get the 1.5 thou press fit that is ideal.
 
You could just wait till it is in the car and connected to the transmission, so nothing spins if you only have a torque wrench.
 
You need to listen to this guy. You need the proper tool and the balancer probably needs to be honed. I hone all of mine to almost a slip fit and ain't ever had a problem. You don't use wood, you don't beat on it, you don't use a impact. This is the crankshaft of your engine you're talkin about here. Use the right stuff and follow the right procedure.
