My harmonic balancer has been spray painted, even the shaft that makes contact with the front seal. My plan is to sand it down until its perfectly smooth, would it be ok to do this? or am i better getting a new one?

Also i forgot to say, the previous owner had it sand blasted before painting it, so simply removing the paint is not an option. So i would have to build the paint up to cover rough finish and then sand it smooth

I realize your in the UK so i understand these things don't grow on trees, but imo i would look for another one. Also would be a little concerned they got carried away with the blasting and hit the internal machined area where the crank runs.

Thanks, As you say a good used one would be fine. If nothing shows up then i will have to go for the new one

Just get one from Real Steel in Uxbridge. They sell an SFI spec damper part no. BY344277 damper They can get one to you next day if its in stock.

They only list a 360 (external balance) damper for stock replacement stuff but you could enquire about 273-340 stuff too.

Call them on 01895 440505

Good call.
Nice to see some stuff available across the pond.
I've got a used stocker in the garage that is for a neutral balance 340 that I replaced with an ATI piece........I make no claims as to it's worthiness , but you can have it for the cost of shipping if you want it.
I'd give it a thorough once over to see if it is worth the price of freight , but I can't say for certain that the outer ring hasn't slipped or the marks are where they should be. It came off of a running 1970 motor and is probably every bit of that old.
