head swap 273 to 360

-
I have a 1967 small block (273), I'm looking to find out if these heads will fit on my 1977 (360) ,

Yes they will fit, but the 360's chambers are way larger than your 273 heads, so your compression goes way down.

Unless you want a sub-8:1 comp engine, dont do it.

Yep compression will go up. I have 318 (302 swirl port) heads on my 360. Same valve size, performer intake, and heads have been cut so chambers equals 57cc. Massive torque producing combo. Engine hangs in there until around 5500 rpm or maybe a tad higher. Static compression is 10.7

Putting 273 heads on a 360 will raise the compression but the problem is the small valves and ports. If it's for a tow truck they'll work ok but you don't want to use them for a perf. engine. Try breathing through a straw sometime. That's the same effect you'll get using 273 heads on a 360.

BTW: Not a big deal but you posted this question in the drivetrain section. Should have been in the SB engine tech section.
