I have a 540 stroker(440) in a 68 dart, the headers installed now have very little clearance on #5 and 6 cycl to install a plug and wire end. The header tube on these exit through the fender well. I want to use ceramic ends to protect the plug wire but don't have the room. They are 2" headers, is this the correct size for the engine? Is there a brand header that has more clearance for the plugs and wire ends?

#5 and #6? Problems on both sides? One of the guys I race with has one of those stroked Big Blocks in his duster and he doesn't have the fender well headers. I'll ask him what brand of headers he went with and what is experiences been with them. But I wouldn't be surprised if he told me he welded them himself. I'll try and get back to this after I've had a word with him.

And the reason I say both sides to make sure that wasn't the clerical error because us small block guys usually have trouble with the five - seven.

Small black guys ! LOL I have trouble w/ 5-6 , hole cut for 6, will cut hole for 5. No.7 is impossible w/ my heads, either have to raise the engine or pull the steering column. Have already cross threaded it twice, will have to repair next time I replace that plug. Thank GOD it`s a new plug !

2” is pretty small for a 540” motor. 2 1/4” is closer to where you want to be. I’m running 2 1/4” to 2 3/8” step headers on my 572 and they made way more power on the Dyno than 2 1/4” Dyno headers.

Can you tell me the make of your header and the clearance for the plugs and wires?

My headers were hand built in the car.

There is no off the shelf header that is larger than 2 1/8” step tube. If you’re happy with that then I would just get a set of TTI’s.
