Looking for headers that don't break the bank. Have a 74 plymouth scamp, gonna be putting a stock la360 out of a truck in it. What do yall recommend

I've used the Summit brand headers on 2 different engines, no denting required but I also have manual steering

Doug's, look around and you can find a sale on them. We put a set in a 72 Duster in a weekend. It was two old farts in their 70's doing the installation.

in my opinion if you don't go dougs or tti just find manifolds and stick them on.. all the cheap ones such as headman, hooker, flotech etc... are all of the same hang low as hell design. they also shroud #5 and #7 plugs and can be hard on plug wires. not worth the hassle to me...

Thank you for the info, I did not know that. I would live to go tti but I am kinda on a budget and can't force myself to spend 1,200 on headers.

You do not have to shop hard to get Doug's around 500.00. they won't be ceramic, but oh well. Many times there are 20% coupons for stores like Jegs or Autozone. Summit will match anything you find for pricing. I think I gave around 480 for a set with discount.

OK thanks. I will do some searching. Only other question I have is will all la360 headers fit with the power steering box and torsion bars?

It's always the "go Doug's or TTI crowd" and I agree they're nice. But, what the HELL did people use before those? You got it. Summit, Hedman, Flow Tec, Hooker and on and on. As long as your car sits at the stock ride height in the front with at least stock height front tires, you won't have a problem. The cheaper headers work fine.

Most all the cheap ones will pretty much, yeah. Just read the foot notes. The only thing I've ever had to do was pray some tubes a little away from each other so they wouldn't rattle against the torsion bars. The last ones I used were about 1994 ot 95 on a 71 Dart with a 360. I think they were the Summit brand, but all those in that class are bent the same as the Hedmans.

That's kinda how I look at it, I can always upgrade later, I just want to get this car on the road so I can enjoy it this summer and possibly win an "in progress or under construction" trophy at some car shows. I do intend to lower my car at some point but I can always modify them if I need too. I wonder if anybody makes a DIY header kit to build your own

Just know you do have to disassemble the steering linkage, as it has to run through the headers. But big whoop.

Oh got ya. Yeah not a big deal. Car doesn't have a steering column as of now, I need to buy an after market one cause the original one is all messed up. What's a good place to look for steering columns for a 4 speed manual?

That's a good question. I don't know if anyone makes something bolt in for Mopar or not. Maybe one of these other guys will know. But you said budget and an aftermarket column for a Mopar AIN'T budget. lol

I have had the same pair of Headman Headers on my 69 Barracuda for 30 years now. I had to put a small dent in one tube to clear the power steering box. I had them coated by Jet Hot Coating after that first test fit. Then about 18 years later, Jet Hot recoated them for me for free under warranty as they were looking rather poorly. They still work and look fine.

Got ya, haha yeah that's true. I wonder if I could rebuild the one I have and remove the shifter on the column?

not true. they wll get smashed at stock height. especially with stockish torsion bars. may smash less with something like a 1.08 bar but i'd bet they would still hit. every small block car back in the day with headers that i can remember had smashed headers ... what we all did before dougs and tti? we ran around cringing at every dip in the road..lol it sucked.
