As many of you know, I (as many) have been struggling financially the last few years having to sell off the Darts and other toys. Well after hitting the books the last year and living off my IRA I have finally been deployed as an independent property adjuster writing for Allstate/Encompass. Now we (probably 30-40 of us) have to go to storm orientation before we are deployed to our different assignment areas. So guess where we have to be for this on Sunday morning @ 8AM..........................Philly. The exact time Irene is suppose to hit there. What rocket scientist plans these things? The airport will probably close Sat. afternoon and no car rental agency will rent cars with an impending storm hitting as they want their cars on their lots, all protected together.
Well I'm off on this great adventure and have been told to expect to be gone for 3-4 months. That's 16 hours/day, 7 day a week. I personally know adjusters that refer to storms that "paid off the mortgage" and will try my best to earn the average I've heard of $1200.00 to $1400.00 per day.

Maybe there is a Hemi Dart in my future (after paying the mortgage).

For those of you in the path of Irene, this is the REAL DEAL Don't take any chances. If ordered to evacuate DO IT!!! Once your dead you can do nothing to help your loved ones. Nothing you own is worth your life. Take all important paperwork and pictures. As an adjuster I can do nothing to replace your family photos and heirlooms.

Photo, Photo and Photo. I promise you after it's gone you won't remember 1/2 of what you own and I cannot pay you for things you don't remember. I've seen cases where people have listed on content forms $5,000.00 for "misc. items I've forgotten". Sorry, it doesn't fly. Video tape EVERYTHING. Video tape each room while someone else opens each drawer and cabinet to tape what is inside. Same with clothes closets.

As a contractor I worked Hugo, Andrew and a few more. As an adjuster I worked Gustav and Ike. I heard the stories about the *sshole adjuster who wouldn't pay for stuff I owned. I CAN'T PAY FOR ANYTHING I DON'T KNOW OR YOU CAN'T PROVED YOU OWNED............VIDEO PLEASE!!!!!

Please no cheating. While working Hugo a guy pulled up to a trash pile and started loading up a stack stereo system that was destroyed by salt water. I asked him why in the world would you want that? His reply......"my adjuster hasn't been to my house and I'm putting it in my Living room so he'll pay me for it". WRONG! We file all model/serial #'s and there is a "clearing house" that these are checked against now. Double entry...........someone is getting charged with Insurance Fraud.

Good luck and stay safe! Questions????? E-mail me @ CatLossMan@aol.com If urgent call me (872) Cat-Loss

Regards,
Jim

Shame, I am a unemployed Auto Damage appraiser of 1 year as of Aug. 3rd. I am curious about the 50% commision thing??? Job here is offering this. I was salary.

I too have advised the East Coast folks to get the heck outa there.

Don't know what the 50% thing is. Are you an independent adjuster? Are you on any Independent Adjuster rosters? There WILL be plenty of work for auto adjusters.

My Texas P/C license expired a while ago. I worked for UAIG as an Appraiser. Not tied to anyone! Hard to find work here. Autozone/O'riellys advised me that I am overqualified?? :banghead::mumum:

Thanks for the info. Started rainin here about 12:30pm. Not much wind yet. It's 2:30pm now and all is good! Got the gen. Ready, the wife, kids, n even 78yr. Old mom listened to me and is stayin with us. Sure it's goin to get rough later tonite though. Be safe all!!!

Boy, from broke to "write your own paycheck" with tons of OT. How ironic. Good luck, be safe, and give those people what they deserve - no more, no less. (Don't let them cheat the system, but don't rip them off either).

I'll find EVERYTHING. My pay is based on the size of each loss.

I have been working for an independant adjuster company mainly for Allstate for over six years. I have been on Long Island since a hail storm on 8/1 as an auto adjuster. Currently I am riding out Irene in Denville, NJ as they told us to get off Long Island. There is orientation going on in Philly and Columbia SC for all of the auto and property adjusters that were deployed....do not expect logic to apply to where you are headed and good luck.

My brother brought up a good point when I read this to him.

If the cars are on the rental agency's lot, the damage is covered by THEIR insurance. If the cars are out rented, the damage is covered by YOUR/RENTER'S insurance. He is an auto insurance adjuster (also on the list to go out and help with the storm damage). So you probably won't have trouble renting a car if it is at the airport on the lot. Be sure to get maximum coverage when you rent, so you don't get stuck with any of the bill... You get to charge it back to the company anyway. Protect yourself and get full coverage!

But yeah, pretty stupid to send you there BEFORE THE STORM HITS!

Try to rent it off site from the airport....I just had my rent contact redone and it saved me $500 a month in taxes!!! Airport rental taxes are crazy...
