What's this about? I'm curious why there is a short piece of heater hose strapped to the heater hoses on my 1965 Barracuda. It's attached to both hoses with a strip of aluminum. I think the red paint is overspray from the spray job on the valve covers. Was this somebody's way of holding them together or away from something else? I've never seen this done before, but it sure seems purposeful.

So that one piece of rubber hose doesn't rub on the valve cover, yeah, lose it.

Someone replaced the hoses since new and slid it back on your picture. I have seen that on 273's to stop the fins on the valve covers from rubbing through the hoses. It was on this car since new. I was the first one to open this hood on the car since 1970 . I replaced it where that little hose and aluminum band where it was found when re installing the engine. Pretty common on older mopars. This engine came from a 67 Dart GT and installed in a 68 Dart GTS that was a Hemi clone . I put it back on the road as a small block. The engine is as you see it when it was pulled from the 67 except for the rattle can rebuild and headers.

From the 67 Factory service manual...
There's a similar picture in the '65 manual, but I'd missed it. It shows 2 clamps, but no piece of hose. I'm more about functionality than originality, but I'll keep it.
