Greetings everyone.

Wanted to join up today as tomorrow I will be buying my 2nd 65 Barracuda (first one was sold about 16 yrs ago because it was really beyond hope) and might need some help with a restoration on it. The bank said ok on the loan (they said don't ask for any more loans after this LOL) and found it for a mere 2500. It currently has 64 Valiant Front Fenders on it, Rebuilt Slant 6 (Worlds most perfect engine). Guy I am getting it from has the original fenders, original motor and seats for it as well. Runs and drives great except for a high idle issue until warmed up. 4 speed on the floor. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow and get it home where it belongs.

Hope I can get some help with this old Fish when the time comes.

Dave

Welcome to the site from former SD native and current ND neighbor. People here are great and very helpful. Enjoy your new ride.

Thanks. Up here in the NW Corner of SD in a tiny town called Buffalo. It's north of Belle Fourche and Sturgis.

Also have a 76 Dart Sport (non Bicentennial Paint job) as well that I will be working on. Can't wait for spring to get here.

Thanks again everyone.

Yesterday I drove the 65 (Fish) Barracuda home. Now this car is now almost 50 years old. It's Rough, It's got personality and reminds me so much of my younger days when all I could afford was 200 or 300 dollar cars, drive it till dies, then buy another. I love it. it's got the squeaks, the rattles, and everything. You can HEAR the Door Close, and it's loud, the door echoes inside when it closes. it's made out of METAL, not Plastic.Even if restored it will continue to have these things. PERSONALITY. Something you don't find in all this electronic Plastic Crap they sell as cars now a days. You open the hood on this thing, and it's got an Engine, Carburetor, Brake Master Cylinder, Battery, Alternator and Starter, and that's about it. a 25 cent screw to adjust the idle speed, not a 200 dollar Idle control box. It got 28 Miles to the Gallon Yesterday, Didn't have to downshift going up a hill like the Chevy or Mini Van we have. You press the accelerator and it revs, there's no electronic pause when you hit the accelerator like in today's junk. I am in LOVE with this Car.

So far the only difficulty I am having is locating anyone that sells replacement rear quarters for this. Seems everyone has 67 and up but nothing for 64-66 Fishes.

I'm a tad confused on the VIN number of the car, the production number is listed on the vin as the last 6 digits of the VIN number, but only 65,000 of them roughly were to have been made, wouldn't the production number be 5 digits then instead of 6 digits (mine is showing 218599 as the production number)

Last 6 Digits=Production Number
Sequential Production number starting with 100001 and IIRC it's for all Valiant and Barracuda models.

This is for US built cars.

Even if I deducted that Starting number, 100001, than that would still put the production number over the so called 65,000 made. That would put it's production number at 118598 and if only 65k of them were built???? WTF.

Yes the production includes Valiant models as well.

1965 Plymouth
Valiant V100 4dr.Sedan------------ - 42,857
Valiant V100 2dr.Sedan------------ - 40,434
Valiant V100 Wagon ---------------- 10,822
Valiant V200 4dr.Sedan ------------- 41,642
Valiant V200 2dr.Sedan -------------- 8,919
Valiant V200 2dr.Conv. -------------- 2,769
Valiant V200 Wagon ----------------- 6,133
Valiant Signet 2dr.HT -------------- 10,999
Valiant Signet 2dr.Conv. -------------2,578
Barracuda Total----------------------- 64,596
1965 Barracuda - 8 cylinder--------40,522
w/ 273 4bbl automatic----------------4,505
w/ 273 4bbl 4-speed------------------4,874
w/ 273 4bbl total---------------------10,062
w/ 273 2bbl total---------------------30,460

I got the Number produced, that's not the Problem, the Problem is that the Production number on the VIN number is 6 Digits. That's 100k Numbers. Not 10k numbers. Do I ignore the first number in the production number to come up with the actual production number.

VIN Production number 218599 (see, that's 100k+ Number there and if only 65k of the them were made, WTF?????)

Yes the VIN includes ALL Valiant models, there was over 100,000 Valiant's produced that year as well as the 62,000 Barracuda models.

I thinks what Keith is saying that if there was 128,000 Valliant's produced, you have that plus 64,000 Cudas, add that to 100001, and the vin's could run to 292,000, so yours is 218599, right between 100001 and 292,000.

Okiee Dokiee. Confusing *** vin numbers some times. Thanks for all the welcomes, Hoping to get started on it this spring, if spring ever shows the hell up.
