Hey fellas, so a customer brought his car into the shop i work at wanting a v8 conversion for his slant six 66' dart. I know it can be done w/ an engine mount kit from schumaker creative services, transmission swap, torsion bars, etc....

One problem is we recently installed a power disc brake kit on the car from ssbc and i don't know if a 360 w/ the mount kit will clear the power brake booster and m/c? Does any one have experiance with this kind of swap/set up? Any advise, details, or ideas on doing this project will be appreciated since we have never done one at our shop before. Thanks

A 360 is dimensionally the same as a 273, 318 and 340. It just has a longer stroke than the smaller engines. You might want to look through the parts for sale right here on FABO to get all the goodies needed to do a V8 swap. Use the search function to check out the many little parts you will need...it's not just motor mounts.

You,ll need to swap out the transmission also, the 66 slant 6 trans won,t work. You,ll also need a V8 centerlink or spacers under motor mounts to raise the oilpan from hitting. Also the easiest throttle/kickdown is to go Lokar cables.I used a 72 Duster throttle and cable.Others will chime in with a list of things needed.

It's unlikely the booster will clear the engine, the factory used a special bracket for PB cars that moved the booster/ MC up & away from the engine. Easiest solution is to just use a manual disc brake MC, the 68-70 factory manual disc MC will work fine but they're getting hard to find.

My car has a 273 v-8 with a booster

Here is what you need for the most painless swap:
1) V8 drop centerlink
2) V8 gas pedal assy / cable
3) V8 (318 easiest / cheapest to get)
4) 273 V8 exh. manifolds (perfect fit, works great with 318)
5) V8 groove pulley set (different for steel or allioy waterpump)
6) matching transmission and torque converter
7) driveshaft with slipyoke
8) radiator (R or L outlet depends on early steel or late alloy waterpump)
9) engine mounts for V8 (K frame OK as is)
10) exhaust system.
11) if dual, tranny crossmember modification needed (notch)

#7 doesn't need to be done if you're keeping it a 904 and using the same rear end. If you're putting an 8 3/4 rear ((recommended), you just need to shorten the existing driveshaft. The yokes are all the same that year......904, 903, or 833.

If you notch the trans crossmember you will also have to notch the frame section. Like this.
