BUT...i don't know a whole lot when it comes to engines, and was curious if you guys can help me out here. Can anyone look at these pictures and give me any information they can squeeze out of them.

If those X-heads are original, it should be a 68, 69 or(maybe) 70. I hope you are not planning on dropping that in as is. Soft plugs not looking so good.

no i'm going to put some $$ in it. i do have a budget and i thought you all could look at the pics and give me some tips on where money is best spent....

Look just above pan rail, pass/filter side under the block drain plug. Flat machined surface, there should be some numbers.

Also on the front of block, drivers side just below the head. More numbers stamped there.

After rebuilding, consider replacing the Torker intake with a good dual plane - RPM/Air Gap, LD340 or Weiand Stealth/Action Plus for most applications. Those original Torkers are not good intakes.

That should be a forged crank, which is good.

i didn't see the numbers on the front of the block

Take some sand paper and wipe away paint grime under driver side right under deck seam to Right of timing chain There is a very light stamping there. 69 340 big valve, score! 6 at end of 340-6 means nothing.

Your block was cast on Aug 10, 1969. That looks like 8-10-69 on the side.

I can't see the first # in front of the "B" on the VIN stamp in post #18 3rd picuture. What is the first digit? 0 or 1? That will tell if it was put into a 70 or 71 model year car.
