so i went to dmv and got my valiant on the road its been sitting since 6/20/09 so im thinking the gas is old but she died at a stop sign out of nowhere at evrey stop please help me figure this out, also the tail lights arnt working som1 said to check the brank light wire whats that look like?, also what the heck is this lil black button kinda under my dash my dad said it was a choke but what should i have it at out or in. please guys i know if anyone can help its all of u guys!

pull the choke out when you start it... once started, push it back in after a few seconds... make sure the engine is nice and warm before you start driving...

it was warm maybe i let it run not too long ill check that next time it was the first time she was started in a week but i just died it was crazy i thought i was done for 1 time she wouldnt start up right away

It sounds like your choke might have been 1/2 way on?Have you been playing with this black button? Also,I don,t think your gas would go bad in less than 2 months.

gas doesnt go bad in 2 months......if your in warmer climate weather then screw the choke...leave it open,if you have a good tuned carbed car you should be able to pump the pedal once or twice and it will fire right up.then just let it idle until it gets warmed up....if it acts like its going to stall out cause its to cold then give it a little feathering on the gas pedal. lots of things you could check....luckily,its old school and there is only so many things that could be wrong with it. start with the basics though. good plugs and wires and all gapped correctly? is your timing on? is it points ignition? if so ,are they up to par? check your fuel filter.....air filter.......pcv filter. but if its just stalling out of the blue even when it seems to run great up until the point it just dies.....and sometimes it may start right back up and sometimes you might have to let it sit for a minute before it starts up.....I would almost bet that you have a bad ballist resistor. alot of people over look them when they have stalling issues and alot of the time its a bad ballast resistor (the little porsalin block with wires going to it) the one for the ignition not the wiper motor. you can pick them up cheap at your local parts store. I had a stalling issue once on a vehicle ....you could start it up and it would run great.......let it run for a few minutes and out of the blue "putputputbwaaaaa" it stalled out.....try to fire it back up and it would crank and crank and crank and nothing....wait a couple minutes and crank it and fired right up like noones buisness . ended up being the ballast. so anyways, that give you a few ideas to go by and a list of things to try but if your symptoms are what I mentioned then I would try a new ballast! good luck!!
