HELP!!! Stink Bugs

I have these Brown Marmorated (Asian) stink bugs infesting my house. From my reading, seems these nasty buggers somehow first showed up in Pennsylvania. I also know that there are a lot of guys on FABO from Pa., so someone has to have experience with these loathsome creatures. Apparently, they can find any little crack or crevice and come in the house that way. I have a vented attic, so I know they can get in there and come down through recessed lighting, cracks, walls, etc. I'm finding these bugs in every room of the house! In the winter, if they get warm enough they start crawling out. Just do anything to aggravate these nasty little bastards and you have a room that unlivable for about an hour!

I'm using vinegar and water and dishwashing soap and water. I bought the first pack of cigarettes in 20 years today just to make a nicotine derivative pesticide. I have probably killed 300-400 in the last 2 days. I washed about a hundred off the side of the house yesterday.

Does anybody have any suggestions short of burning the house down or moving? Too expensive to use a shotgun and I can't find enough .22 shells. Thanks
 
Good luck. We do battle with them here in Eastern Washington.....but NOWHERE near as bad as you have them. Can you post the recipe for the nicotine based pesticide please.

from what I read, the experts say not to bother spraying on the outside - that the chemicals to kill them outside will dissipate in a couple hours of sunlight. They congregate where the sun hits the house.
If you spray inside, the carpet mites will feast on them. Jeez - these are nasty little buggers! I need to know if anything repels them!
 
The recipe for the nicotine pesticide is 2-3 smokes for 200 ml of water, about 3/4 cup. Soak the tobacco for 24 hrs. and strain the solids from the water. Then boil the water to kill something (don't remember what they said to kill). Cool the water and put in a spray bottle. They said to use gloves when straining or spraying due to the high concentration of nicotine. Didn't know that when I smoked a pack and a half a day!
 
We have a friend that uses long sticky strips from the hardware store. Today is day two of stick bug season here it looks like. After the weather turns colder I usually go through everything thing in the garage and am amazed at their hiding places.

Also there is a natural predator called the wheel bug that is truely bizarre looking.

First year was the worst. I don't waste my time trying to kill them anymore. They mostly swarm the house in early evening as the temp drops. Most of the ones that get in come through the door. When someone goes in or out. A few work there way through small openings around windows. Venting should have screen or mesh - should not let too many in that way. For us,, that doesn't matter though since our garage door does not seal well and it's connected and open through the roof of the house. When they do get in, We just pick them up and throw them back out or flush them. They can be really annoying when they fly right into you. The worst thing for me has been in the spring I find them in everything the garage. They will hibernate in anything. Between or in boxes, between layers of folded tarps...

We actually have some of those around here. Never saw them till after the stink bugs showed up. I've only seen a few, usually clinging to the porch roof. I hope a few of them can take down a lot of stink bugs, cause I definitely don't want a swarm of them.

Go Online and Buy Transport GHP it comes in a container with about 20 dissolvable packets use 1 per gallon -go to home depot purchase a back pack sprayer fill it with 2 gallons of water =2 packects- spray around your entire base of the house in a wide pattern hitting the ground and the house i would even go around 2 times, spray around windows anywhere you think they might get in do this once a week it will knock them down and keep killing them -I am a licensed exterminator PS- wear a mask
 
I am disappointed there is not more information on these critters as they spread across the country, destroying crops. Seems like the researchers are busy counting them.

When seen around the house in fall they are looking for a place to hibernate for the winter and more of a pest. The attic and garage are targets. They fly to the side of the house and may miss the perimeter insecticide. Caulk and screening may be effective in keeping them out. The scented traps may attract more than they capture.

You won't be able to get rid of them. The best you can do is control the situation. I find that the Achilles heel in my house is the screen on the slider. They are able to get easily through the gaps. Don't bother washing them off the house, they'll just return. I find the best thing to do is vacuum them up. I will say that we have a central vac so if they emit their stink, we won't smell it. I would imagine that millions of gallons of water have been wasted by folks flushing them.
From what I've read, there is a lot of research going on in agricultural colleges. They do a lot of damage to fruit crops..apples, peaches etc. The University of Delaware has identified a wasp about the size of a pinhead that is a natural predator of the stink bug. However, it's not native to the country and they're researching the dangers of introduction. Until they figure it out, we're on our own. Good luck.

I use Neem oil a few tbs in a quart of water and a tsp of pine sol as a repellent. Neem oil is amazing I have been using it on my hops field for years and works great. Spray around the doors and windows and the sunny side of the house. Works great and last about a week. The alternative is the bio smash method guaranteed to work! Just takes a while.
