How much forward does the kick down cable need to go? I know it goes all way to the back. I want to make sure it’s in the right spot. If you have any pictures that would help too. Thanks

Use a spring attached to kickdown lever to pull it completely forward against the throttle cable stud. It has to be positioned as such. So, the lever moves simultaneously with the throttle cable stud. Otherwise tranny won’t shift or kickdown properly. If you look closely. I use 2 springs. 1 on cable stud to retract it and another attached separately to kickdown linkage swivel. Using 2 separate springs assures that the springs don’t interfere with the functioning of one another. Both throttle cable stud and kickdown lever are always where the two should rest in place. Piece of cake.

If you’re using a cable. Trust me, when I say this. Throw it in the trash and get an original kickdown linkage. The cables are not worth a piss. The brackets are not sturdy enough, even if you do fabricate your own sturdy bracket. The cable, if not the complete assembly flexes too much. The flexing does not allow the kickdown to work like it should. They are all junk. I tried all of them. The original linkages have zero flexing. Therefore, the kickdown linkage responds simultaneously with the throttle linkage. That’s what the complete set up requires for it to continuously operate properly. Using an original linkage is incredibly easy to set up and once it is. You never have to think about it again. It’s impossible for it to fail. No future adjusting needed, etc. Unlike, the crappy cable set ups. The brackets bend and do not return to original position. Therefore, they are always out of adjustment. Only thing that corrects that is a trash can. This is an original linkage with an aftermarket intake and 4 barrel carb. Infact, it’s an original 2 barrel linkage on a 4 barrel carb. Works flawlessly, time and time again.

We have seen the aftermarket cables in metal sheathes chafe wiring and cause engine bay fires too. There just sin't enough space for them in our a-bodies.
