help with the 318

ok so you know whats up with the 360 so im going to be messing with my 318 unitl i get done with the 360 so this is what im going to to do to the 318

put the 302 heads on since no one wants them
put my headers on
put ither the weaind or eldy rpm air gap on
and the 750 vac sec

also i might throw the cam from the 360 in with new lifters so ya

here are the specs on that cam:

2 barrel .410/.410 252/252 or 4 barrel .430/.444 268/276 and i have no clue what carb came with this stock so lets go with the 2 barrel cam specs
what will these numbers be? im just wanting to have a little quicker car until the 360 is done or sold most likely done unless some one wants to buy it

but what will this do
 
If the 318 is in a running car and doesn't need the heads or headgaskets replaced I would just throw on the 4 bbl and the headers and drive the piss out of it as is while you concentrate on the 360 build. Why do the cam and the heads now if you are just going to pull it later and drop in a 360 pretty soon?
 
no not pretty soon its going to be like a year or 2 becasue i dont have alot of money and i already have these parts so might as well use them
 
This is (as they say) a whole other can of worms. Don't be impatient. Instead of spending another chunk of time (and money) working on your 318 and starting another xx amount of threads about it, how about focusing on possibly earning some money thus moving up your 360 completion date. I have a good idea that what you are planning with the 318 is going to take up a lot of your time (as well as others). Chances are, those plans you have for it will not go smoothly. Just focus on earning (borrow if you must) money to complete the 360. I do not know if you have a job or not but if not, get one. There is a bit of summer left & you can work part time when the school year begins. We all did it. Just some food for thought. Feel free to munch away.
 
ya i am going to get a job when i come back from school i should have about umm lets see 500 for a good grade scholarship i got haha umm 100 from past job 190 in bank already 100 from parents for bday 2-300 for going to SD for 10 days ill try to save it like always then like 100-200 from others for my bday
so ill have bout 1200 at most at least 1000 maybe
 
o plus 80 for headers im going to sell and the heads i need to sell and the weaind stealth intake

It sounds like it will not be 1 or 2 years until it is done. Focus on the 360 & drive the 318 as is.
 
so its like 150 to bore and hone and like 2-300 to balance then 200 for pistons and rings? maybe not well see what happens

Exactly! Same build rules that apply to the 360 pretty much apply to the 318. Why spend the money on the 318 when you will eventually put the money into the 360?

$1,000 can get you a lot of machine work.
 
well not really for the 318 i would only need gaskets i have everything else

but for machine work i only need bore and balance and im done for the 360
 
well i mean then i have to do the heads and rebuild the tranny and get a converter and rocker arms and pushrods all for the 360 thats why i can just use what i have for the 318 with out using more then 100
 
That's $100 that could be going toward your 360. Focus on the 360. Focus on your 360. I repeat ... focus on your 360. Do we have any hypnotists in this group? If so, we need to get you out to San Jose for an emergency session..

i agree, stick with the 360. but if you already have a 4 brl intake and carb, might as well wake up the 318 since it is an easy swap anyways.
 
get a slant 6..................? ok f that do up ur 360. ps: alot of power is in compression. if u havent already, put some money into that and up it. it can be pricey tho.......only drawback. good luck
