hey John, I wanted to ask you in particular since you build model cars, but anyone else who knows can let me know too. I got the Mr Norms Dart a while back and wanted to get started on it. I have a couple more mopar models waiting to get painted too, a 71 cuda and a 70 challenger. Is there any problem with using regular spray paint to paint a model car? I was thinking of getting these little cans of automotive touchup spray paint we have at my job. Will there be any problems? will the decals go on ok? I dont really want to get an airbrush kit and i know using a paint brush looks pretty bad. but i dont want to ruin the models either. If you can give me any info, thanks!

i have 2 questions.

1)..i have 2 SOX AND MARTIN cuda models,1 still wrapped and 1 open..are they worth anything??

2)..is that your girl in your sig?? :thumrigh:

I use Duplicolor all the time, straight from the can when I don't air brush. Just MAKE SURE you use a compatible PRIMER, or the paint will attack the plastic and turn into pooh-pooh. I recommend using the Duplicolor primer with their paints. Those small cans of paint will do an entire model no problem. Prime the plastic thoughly before spraying color. The trick is to dust on the color LIGHTLY until you have coverage. Then lay on a heavier wet coat. Let it dry at least 15 minutes between coats. Don't expect a glossy finish at this point. The next day I start laying on clear coats. If you lay on too much it will run & sag. That's a no-no. Spray in too high a humidity and the clear will haze or possibly fog. Another no-no. The right amount? Practice.... Grab what ever you can and try and make it shiney & pretty. THEN go after the models.

Good luck with your build up. It's not only a relaxing hobby, but it give's you a killer garage full of dreams in a more manageable ( and affordable....) scale. :thumrigh:

These are probably the Johan kits, which were re-issued several times. Value? Maybe $15-25. Priceless to build

Now, if you have the MPC annual kit with the Sox & Martin option and it's still sealed your talking about $225-275

You guys are starting to think about models at the wrong time of year.

thanks a lot john, i waited a couple years to do this cause i wanted to make it look just like my car was going to look, and i finally know how thats gonna be. do you have any small block model engines? ill buy it off you if you do, Id rather put that in the car than the big block that it comes with. if not, thanks anyway im gonna paint it tommorrow!

Hows your latest project coming along ?

I was thinking about you when all this model talk popped up. I'm headed over to the house tonight to lay on some clear coats. I also did one in L1 turquoise, which is the color my car is supposed to be. :thumrigh:

Aside from Adam, you guys wanna know what am I talking about? You'll have to wait & see......
