High Tack on bolt threads?

Do you use Permatex 80062 on bolts as well? I use it on gaskets, but in all my years I don't recall using it on threads, I use RTV, PTFE or pipe dope.
The directions on the can specifically mentions using it on bolt threads. What do you think?

on like water pump bolts or any into water i use black rtv.... gaskets i use aviation sealer..

I use gasket sealer on gaskets. And thread sealer on threads. Specifically I use right stuff anytime I need an rtv type of sealer for a gasket and I use loctite 5113 thread sealant paste with PTFE on threads.

I didn’t agree with the directions and will continue to use thread sealant.
I'm always skeptical about using sealants especially silicone based stuff as it's hard to get a consistent coverage. The aviation stuff is somewhat like the high tack. I like it more to hold the gasket in place while installing say a new water pump on my van which is what I'm working on now. I'm considering using high tack on the new pump side and RTV on the motor which is clean, but maybe a little rough as it's used. The hard part is getting the new pump on the bypass hose without having to worry about the gasket.

High tack as the name implies, is more for holding gaskets in place than sealing. I don't think I'd use it on bolt threads.

I have not. I’m a loyalist, when I find something that I like I stick with it. But I’ll try anything once, and on your recommendation I will absolutely try it.

It will be very hard for me to be convinced that something works better than the tried and true loctite 5113 though.

Will it stick to the teflon or the anti-seize? Cuz that's what ends up on 99% of my threads.

Many things work. Go with what you know or prefer.
High tack will work, rtv, the loctite thread sealer, indianhead.. all kinds of ****. I don't believe it's very critical in an area like this.

I'm nursing an infection in my knee that I picked up from kneeling on something at the junkyard. It actually turned out to be pretty serious so I can't work for a few day so I'm bored and am just trying to get a solid consensus on procedure. The warning notes with the installation instructions mentions RTV on fiber gaskets, but never mention using any sealant on the gasket which is paper in the actual installation instructions. Most of the time I let gasket be the sealant unless something additional is specifically called for.

When I built the BBC for my boat I had a hard time sealing the head bolts that go in to the intake ports when I put boost to it. That’s when I discovered and became a believer in the loctite stuff.

I never understood why Chevy did that. Penny pinching, I guess. Then Chrysler followed later on in the late eighties-head bolts into water jackets..and had to put a disclaimer sticker on the valve covers to use thread sealant.

Just remember anything on bolt threads changes the amount of torque you can / should apply 20lbs dry might be 40 wet (JUST NUMBERS FOR EXAMPLE)

Also many people don't follow the instructions on the sealants they use on gaskets or threads. many silicon says to apply a bead and wait till it tacks up then install the part.
Personally I let the gasket and sealer setup overnight before adding any fluids that will come in touch with it.

This is what I have used on the water pump threads that go into the water cavity

for pipe threads I use Teflon tape and or

i service a pretty wide array of stuff, so something that is a multi tool player was a real game changer. the "loctite" aspect is where the magic is for me-- dealing with a lot of air fittings and vibration.

This is a favorite go to. I used the Permatex version but it ws dried up after a few years on the shelf and the A stores usually have but they were out, that's why why I picked up the High Tack.

I've glued intake gaskets with that, but thats about it.
