What is the easiest way to find out the history of my car. CarFax only works for 1981 and new correct?

Does anyone know how to go about this in CA if I wanted to find out how many people owned the car before me and such

have your vin number handy and call 1-916-657-8098. ask for ext. 70. history dept. the girl i talked to was veronica i do belive. anyway this is where you will need to look. good luck!

Thanks For The # Apparently They Only Hold 10 Years Of Info. I Found Out It Was Reg In 89 91 And Then Not Until 2005 From The Guy I Bought It From. I Was Trying To See How Many Owners And Such But Oh Well That Is All She Could Give Me.

very true they do only hold for 10 years but..... they have records that superceed this on microfish. the dept i plugged you into can acess the old files on microfish. i mention this as i was stonewalled with the 10 year thing as well. i later found this ext. # and got the lady i listed. she was able to tell me more as well. i would have had what i needed but the microfish file i need was either lost or refiled in the wrong place. needless to say i am stuck.... california is tuff to find out info on cars do to the fact they have so many registered drivers there!
