Upon inspecting my '68 Dart Holley 1920 carburetor in anticipation of rebuilding the carb, I determined that the throttle shaft/throttle body is worn. I haven't found suitable repair parts, and the FSM warns against trying the replace the shaft. What are my options at this point?

I recently bought this car, so I have very little experience with its running quality. It seemed to run well and idled very smoothly before I commenced disassembling it.

take the throttle plate to a machine shop they can cut a valve guide down for a bushing and ream the shaft to size

It seems to me that the only thing affected by moderate throttle shaft wear would be the ability to idle smoothly. I do know that the car idles perfectly smoothly and at a very low speed. All of the slants I've owned did so. Every one of them had lots of miles on the carb without having any repairs to the throttle shafts. I'd like to hear from other slant owners if their worn carb throttles have caused any problems.
