My friend has a holley 600 on a fresh 340, doesnt want to idle right all the time, could this be dirt or vaccume leak? Im thinking dirt because it surged on his old 318. Sometimes idles and drives find then it will surge and not idle.

I'd recommend cleaning and putting a kit in it and then figure out the tuning. If it's a stock 340 that may be all it needs. If it's modified and has a larger cam, it may need some further jetting and power valve tuning.

X2.But it sounds like a plugged idle circuit.Cheapo trick.Try marking the mixture screws(if unadjusted, from last combo!).Count the turns in,make note of it.Take an air compressed, rubber tipped gun,hit that orifice a couple of times. You will hear the restriction go away,if there. After that, kit it.

Took the mixture screws out tonight blew air threw them and readjusted carb seams to run fine now. Also took off the fuel line where it goes into the carb there was some small pieces of dirt in the little filter, either way something fixed it, thanks for the advice.
