Hood springs

Any tips on removing the hood springs on a 65 Valiant?

Be Careful! Got me between the eyes. remove the hood, Grip spring with large channel locks, pull down on the spring with the channelocks. and raise the hinge to clear the spring. relieve the tension on spring with the channelocks. BE CARE FUL!!!!!! Im a little tired right now, I will give pics in the Am if you still need.:burnout:MT

I used one of those seal removal tools. Cover w/ lots of type if you don't want to scratch them, mine were repainted. A helper is nice but can be done single handed.

Thanks for the tips guys. I removed the springs last night with little drama, but how do you remove the hinges with the fenders still on?

It can be done, but difficult. If you remove the inner fender splash shield it will give you access to the hinges. They are mounted on short pins/shafts and held in place with locking washers. If you can pry those washers off you can remove the hinges. Alternatively, pull the fenders. That makes it much easier.
