My ballast resistor was burning hot and smoking,my duster wouldn't start turning the ignition switch.none of the engine wiring harness got burnt up or smoked.l did the electronic ignition conversion recently.could l have wired wrong somewhere? I did follow the instructions.

Also getting no power when turning the key or try starting from relay.it won't even temp to start at all.l get nothing at all.l charged up the battery

It could have even been fingerprint grease burning off from where it was assembled. It was NEW, right? It's normal for them to get very hot. They reduce battery voltage 12+ down to around 8 or so, so there's a lot goin on there.

Then it's likely ok. Measure the voltage at the coil + with the ignition on and see what you get. Should be around 8V ignition on and 10+ with the starter engaged. It would be battery voltage, but the starter knocks a volt or two off when it's engaged.
