My dad got a 9 inch ford rear for his 27 T roadster pick up with 4.11 trutrackloking sureposigripping gears. He took out the 3rd member to get some brackets welded on the housing and we were cleaning up the pumpkin and I noticed this.

The gears are very smooth and there is no binding or anything that feels bad when you rotate them. The axles both slide in and out with no problems but there is this chunk taken out and a round wear section that has nothing wearring on it.
I ran a magnet on a stick into the pumpkin and came up with nothing major. The housing had the usual teeny tiny metal bitts inside.

What happened to it?

I'd say that there was an oops in there at one point in its life. Its just a bearing adjuster and as long as it isn't moving you're ok. run it.

Looks like someone slammed an axle into the adjuster. Just a guess. Your old man and I have the same boots, lol!

I just talked to my dad and he said that his friend Bill the ford god just came over and looked at it. Bill says that at one time there was a busted axle and as long as it is tight and there are no chunks in there it will be fine. My dad is just going to be running a chevy 4 banger and the rear will be lucky if it ever sees 200 hp.
My dad calls it a 50 mile car. You drive 50 miles and then you have to get out and streach because your *** fell asleep. I dont think he will even fit in it when it is done.

Waggin, thanks for the offer, I told him and he said that he is just going to run it as is. yes he is stubborn and yes I will let you know when he blows the rear and we will need those parts lol.
