I know, the title makes me sound like a dumbass.

Here's the story.

The wife and I were out for a drive on some back roads Sunday. We passed one of the many back yard junk yards in this area. I spied the back window of a fastback cuda. I stopped and backed up. I was only able to get a quick look as nobody was home and the neighbors were watching. It appeared to be either a 68,or 69. The badges were missing from the car. I did notice that it was a bucket seat car with an auto floor shift and console. Unknown motor. The chrome hood panels were partly missing. I got the distinct feeling I was looking at a "S" car. Any other way to tell with out seeing the vin?
This guy also has a bunch of other cars in a back field that I couldn't see, but I'm going to try.

Easy as pie. 67's do not have side marker lights, 68's have round ones and 69's have rectangular ones. Also, 69's do not have inserts on the hood, 68 inserts call out the engine displacement if it's an "S", 67 inserts are all the same.

An "S" car is just emblems, heavy duty suspension (available on any model) and the performance engine. 67 would either be the 273 4bbl or 383, 68 would be either the 340 or 383 and 69 would be either the 340, 383 and I believe you could get the "S" with the 440 but not sure.

Thanks for the info guy's. I will be looking into this car again even though it is a rust bucket. It seemed to be mostly there and havethe good parts like the dash and such.

All of the 69 cuda's I have seen have a pair of small non-functional scoops on the hood.

The scopes were part of the 'cuda package in 69, S and standard cars had a plain hood. 67 and 68's had hood inserts.

The 150 mph speedometer was only standard on the Formula S in 1966. I have seen plenty of 67-69 Formula S cars with the standard 120 speedo.

I will try and get another look at it this weekend. Hopefully the guy will be around and I can get a look in his back field.
