this is exactly the way i done my board 8 years ago , no problems since . to the op get a butane pencil torch and clean everything super clean you will be hard pressed to get the heat with the iron . also use t.v. radio flux core solder . this is what worked for me and is very easy to do .

Yes. What were you using the first time? 95/5 copper pipe solder? (Not well designed for electrical if so, you'd need flux and lots of practice, as the size is just too much to manage).

BUT, as others have said, the strength comes the mechanical staking operation. Attaching w just solder, and it will break again after a few potholes. I'd send it to Mike.

As you can see there were a couple traces that were eaten away. I assume it had water running down the back of the dash for a few years.
I should have taken a before picture. That one was in rough shape.
