I have a 71 duster and am welding in a new shifter bracket and console brackets. The car is originally a column shift. Is there a mark or some spot I can use as a starting point? Otherwise I should wait until trans is back in car to align it? Any thoughts?

The automatic console needs to be very close to proper or the sliding blind in the bezel wont last very long. The console brackets that I made didn't have any provisions for console attach screws. One could get the console positioned properly then shoot drill point screws in the brackets. Original and AMD reproduction brackets have provisions in the form of slots that will draw those attach screws to a position that may or may not be the sweet spot, depending on bracket placement. One could hog out the screw holes in their console to get needed adjustment.
Good luck with it.
