How do you replace fuel sending unit gasket?

Car's up on jacks, drained 7 gal of fuel, loosened the ring and it dripped for an hour. Where does the gasket go? Does the sending unit have to come out? Thanks

Yes the sending unit should come out and the seal ring installed over it to end up between the tank and senders base.

Well just figured out it's the ring around the sending unit that's leaking. I did figureout how to replace the gasket but it's still leaking. How can you fix a leak around the bottom of the outter ring?
